My wife and I decided to spend the afternoon near Lake Mead as it was such a nice January afternoon. We wanted to go where we could get some good photographs of landscapes and nature. The first place we stopped was the wetlands trail that goes along the Las Vegas Wash between Lake Las Vegs and Lake Mead, It is accessible by heading all the way east on Lake Mead Parkway in Henderson, entering the park and then turning left on Lakeshore Drive. The pullout for the wetlands trail is about one mile from the turn on the right hand side just over the Las Vegas Wash.
The wetlands walk was enjoyable. We saw an osprey soar up the river. We saw a great blue heron. We also saw some very interesting tracks including the massive heron tracks, raccoon tracks and coyote tracks. There were many coots and ducks standing on rock in the middle of the white water.
We ended the afternoon with a quick trip south on Lakeshore Drive a few miles(3.5 miles) to 33 Hole Vista Point where I photographed a beautiful lake panorama. I chose a panorama to adequately portray the grandeur of the scene. I set my DSLR on manual after taking a light reading with the camera set on aperture priority. I then shot 7 photographs moving from left to right overlapping each frame with the previous frame. When I got home I used Photoshop Photomerge to stitch the photos together and Lightroom to tweek contrast, vibrance, clarity, and sharpness.
